outside, pure adventure
15 plans around San Gil, told with what we know and what we don't. The hostel isn't a tour operator: the front desk helps you book with local operators. Prices, times and inclusions belong to each operator and change; confirm them before you pay.

How to book
Fly the canyon
Run off a hillside and the Chicamocha Canyon opens up beneath your boots. The front desk can set it up with local operators.
San Gil's home river
The river running through San Gil, where Colombian rafting began. Rapids, laughs and milky-brown water; the desk can book it.
Big water
The Fonce's wilder sibling: powerful rapids and big waves, aimed at people who've rafted before. Ask the desk if it's possible.
Canyon river
Paddle the floor of the great canyon between dry walls and heat. A regional option to ask the front desk about.
Adventure Saturdays
A forest trail to a tall waterfall, with the option to rappel down it. It's the hostel's Saturday 10:00 group plan.
Down with the water
Lower yourself down waterfalls on a rope, backwards, with the water pouring over you. The desk can help find an operator.
Into the dark
Crawl, squeeze and sometimes swim through the region's caves. The front desk books trips with local operators.
One step out
A few seconds of free fall and a cord that bounces you back. Ask the desk whether they can set it up, and with whom.
Up in the trees
Swinging bridges, zip lines and high challenges, harness on. The desk can point you to a park and help you get there.
Town of stone
Stone streets, whitewashed adobe and green doors: a slow day in a National Monument town. Buses leave from the Terminalito.
Stone with a past
A 19th-century stone road, now a national monument, dropping from Barichara to Guane past cacti and views over the Suárez canyon.
Fique and river pools
A town of fique weavers, with natural river pools at Pescaderito and caves nearby. Buses leave from San Gil's Terminalito.
Everyday San Gil
Ceiba trees on the square, an 18th-century cathedral, an island park on the river and a huge market hall. All on foot.
The weekly rhythm
Football, tejo, dancing, movies, karaoke and sunrise or sunset outings: the hostel's weekly rhythm, without being a party hostel.
Santander's snack
Fried, crunchy, salty ants: a Guane-era snack Santander defends with pride. Ask the desk where to find them.
Nothing with that mix.
